Farm jobs in Darwin
Australia’s smallest capital city, Darwin nestles on the edge of the Timor Sea at the very top of the Northern Territory. This tropical city has a cosmopolitan vibe, with sunset markets, international restaurants and bars which spill out onto the streets. It's the gateway to the incredible landscapes of Kakadu National Park, as well as the watering holes and waterfalls of Litchfield National Park. For many backpackers, it's a popular stop when heading from the Red Centre through the Kimberley region to the West Australian coastal town of Broome.
Because of its distinct “wet” and “dry” seasons, farm jobs in Darwin can either be relatively easy to find (if you're willing to brave the heat and humidity of the “wet”) or fiercely competed for between backpackers during the more appealing “dry” season. September through to November is the best time to secure mango picking jobs in Humpty Doo which lies just to the south of Darwin and there's also work in the citrus industry from September through to April or picking melons from June to October. Farm jobs can also be found in the banana and flower industries year-round, together with general farm labouring and cattle herding.
