With an enviable Mediterranean climate, picturesque coastal setting and countless festivals, Adelaide is one of Australia’s most liveable cities. It’s often overlooked by backpackers, but the “City of Churches” is a great place to base yourself for a few months en route to Perth or “The Outback” and Uluru. It’s home to a population of around 1.2 million and boasts long stretches of beach, great cafes and restaurants and a lively student culture.
In addition to fruit and vegetable harvest work, Adelaide is also a hub for the surrounding wine growing regions, with seasonal viticultural work available. November to April is grape picking season, while May to October offers vine training work. The warm summer months coincide with cherry picking season, while the apple, pear and raspberry harvest extends into April and May. Tomatoes, eggplants, beans, leeks and zucchinis are other important crops which offer seasonal farm work in Adelaide throughout the year, together with the harvest of flowers and general labouring farm work throughout the Adelaide Hills region.
