Trainee Chick Sexer

Aviagen is the world’s leading poultry breeding company. Aviagen Australia is an important part of this global organisation and has hatchery operations located in Goulburn where we are now offering a Trainee Cloacal Chick Sexer opportunity.

As a trainee no previous experience is required as you will undertake an intensive 6 month training program to learn the basics in this very specialised and important part of the operation, if after the 6 months you are successful then you will progress through to the next stages requiring even greater focus to achieve the levels of competence demanded of a competent Sexer.

Trainee starting rate is $24.50 gross taxable per hour, you’ll be in a permanent full time role, you will also function as an active part of the chick processing team. As your competence grow so too does your wage rate.

The role requires good eyesight, a high degree of manual dexterity, a natural ability to pay attention to detail and maintain extremely high levels of concentration of up to 8 hours.

If you can demonstrate these skills, once qualified (which is determined by reviewing % accuracy and reaching speed levels of 900+ chicks per hour) high levels of remuneration are achievable although pay rates are dependent on the number of chicks sexed per session.

Working days and hours are dependent on the hatch schedule and this will change on a week to week basis. Typically though this does require early starts from around 6am although the working day is generally finished by 3pm Monday to Friday.

The poultry breeding industry has very strict bio-security and animal welfare standards so all employees are restricted from keeping pet birds, poultry, pigs or other intensive livestock.
