Remember, under the Horticulture Award, you must be paid at least the minimum wage for each day you work. If you’re paid by piece rate for a fruit picking role, you should earn at least 15% more than the minimum hourly rate for your classification. Job Description
The farm is located in Gardners Bay, about an hour south of Hobart. Our peak season is expected to be throughout February, though this may vary depending on the weather. We anticipate continuing the harvest into March. Picking will be casual, and blackberries can be harvested in wet conditions or higher temperatures (which in Tasmania means over 26°C).
There will be some early picking work available this month. If you’re already in Tasmania and ready to start, please let me know.
Wages and Conditions:
Wages will be based on the Horticulture Award, currently around $29.33 per hour for adults.
We strongly encourage piece-rate picking, calculated as:
$0.625 per 125g punnet
$1.25 per 250g punnet
Approximately $5.00 per kilo of first-grade fruit
Junior rates apply to the hourly rate but not the piece rate.
Fruit is picked directly into the punnets it will be sold in.
Other work may include shed grading and fruit pickup.
Accommodation:
On-site camping is available at $10 per person per night.
Facilities include toilets, a shower, and microwaves for heating lunch while the farm is operating.
You’ll need to bring your own cooking facilities for other meals and your own drinking water.
The Woolworths in Huonville is less than 25 minutes away for supplies.
