Farm Housekeeper / Nanny

Timaru Farming Kulin, Western Australia

2nd Year Visa Eligible

Job Description

Farm hand + nanny / au pair / housekeeper role: save money FAST with free accommodation. 88 days eligible.

Start Date: early November

We only have a role for ONE person but if you are a couple or friends travelling together, you can still be considered with your partner living in the accomodation and seeking harvest work elsewhere.

Please read the ESSENTIAL CRITERIA and ONLY APPLY if you meet the criteria.

We are seeking a hardworking person to assist on our farm and around the house during the busy grain harvest season. This is a great job for a teacher, childcare worker or similar, looking to experience rural life. Our farm is nearby to the small town of Kulin, which is 300km ESE of Perth, or approx. a 3.5hour drive from Perth. Kulin is a social town with great facilities, a good number of young people and other backpackers around. We produce grain and sheep for meat. Our days are long and busy, so we are looking for someone to join the team who has initiative and is keen to contribute however they are needed. This is an enjoyable job, all training is provided and while the work can be physically hard, we will never ask you to do any work that we wouldn’t be willing to do ourselves.

As you will be performing some farm hand duties as part of the role, you can apply for this work to be considered 88 days regional work.
- FREE accommodation: your own 3 bedroom, one bathroom house which is clean with air-conditioning. The accommodation is a short walking distance from work. Occasionally you may need to share the accommodation with other backpackers.
- Minimal expenses while working, so it is a great opportunity to save money.
- Use of a car for personal use if you do not have your own.
- 9 days of work per fortnight, so you can travel on your days off
- The role would suit someone who is neat, tidy, organised and has great cleaning skills.
- Training in all tasks required of you and a safe work environment.
- We have a good team of hardworking people to work with, you will be treated well and considered a valuable member of the team.
- Paid as per the WA Farm Employees Award, provided with timesheets and fortnightly pay. Superannuation is paid and tax is taken out as required.

- Daily tasks will vary, depending on the requirements on-farm. Expect a week to include
o Household tasks, indoors and outdoors. This includes: laundry, sorting and washing clothes, hanging clothes outside to dry, folding and putting away laundry for a large family, kitchen cleaning, vacuuming and mopping, cleaning bathrooms and toilets, changing sheets and making beds, watering plants, maintaining swimming pool, mowing lawns, mulching, pruning and fertilising the garden, feeding chickens, caring for family pets, tidying and pressure washing outdoors.
o Contribute to household routines eg. cleaning up after meals, keeping the house organised
o Caring for children, including supervising, keeping them safe, some food preparation, playing with them outdoors and indoors and tidying up with them. More childcare tasks will be given if applicant has experience with babies and children.
o Tasks around the farm to help with harvest operations.

- ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS
o Hardworking with a level of fitness and strength to fit with the above described tasks, able to work quickly and efficiently
o VERY neat, clean and tidy around the home
o Working with Children Check (if you do not have one, you can arrange to get one before you start)
o Experience working with children
o Drivers Licence (manual preferred)
o First Aid training (if you do not have any first aid training you can complete a course BEFORE you come.) We are in a remote area without easy access to emergency services- you MUST learn first aid prior.

- DESIRABLE
o Ability to swim well (we have a swimming pool)
o Own car
o English as a first language
o Practical skills and the ability to pick up skills that are taught to you eg. operating equipment, power tools

This job is in the Wheatbelt area of Western Australia, what some people would describe as “the outback.” The location is beautiful and being part of a small community is an incredible experience, you can make loads of new friends, try different things and road trip to different parts of WA on your days off. We have had many backpackers work with us over the years, with several staying on but we have found that living in the “bush” is not for everyone. You need to be someone who can embrace the unique experience of living remotely- be willing to make new friends, be willing to go to social events and join in with what’s going on. It’s ok to be wary of snakes, lizards, spiders and insects but if they’re really a huge deal for you, please don’t apply. There’s no shopping centres, restaurants or clubs. Our town (which you can only get to by driving from our farm) has basic but very good facilities- one shop, post office, café, ag supplies, swimming pool, waterslide, gym, sporting ground. It’s peaceful, quiet and your neighbour is nature, with the closest human neighbour >3km away! In summer it is VERY hot (40C / 104F during the day) and this makes physical work hard but it still needs to be done. If you can’t work in the heat, please do not apply. This is a job for someone who can “roll up their sleeves” and work as hard as we do. All of this also makes the ice-cold beer, at the end of the day, with your new mates from all around the world, taste better than ever!

Please note
o You will need to have an Australian bank account, tax file number (TFN) and superannuation account before you come.
o There is NO wifi included / available
o ONLY phones on the Telstra network work in the area. You will need a phone that is connected to the Telstra network and you can use this for your internet
o You must pay a bond of $200 for the accommodation on arrival and agree to the conditions of use (leave it clean and tidy)
o If you would like to use the car, there is a $200 bond for the car in addition to the accommodation bond.
o You must participate in our occupational health and safety program and work safely at all times. This means completing an online and in person safety induction, learning while you are trained and signing off / documenting skills and safety discussions.
o You should have an ability to be clean, neat, tidy and organised around the homestead and farm. We keep things neat and organised and need you to be able to also.
o You must keep your mobile phone on silent and packed away, in your bag, while working, as your job involves supervising young children.
